Artist statement
Crafted with the use of mixed 3D techniques, Tomas Sjögren’s virtual universe glances toward a post-digital animistic cosmology beyond flora and fauna, matter and phenomena. His work sets the scene for a playful and humorous rekindling of the sacred in a world where humanity has become bewitched by digital feeds. Transposed into handmade tapestries and wooden sculptures, the "digitalness" of his virtual objects and spaces is suddenly put into question, as if what we perceive as the unreal world of ones and zeros may possess a nature, materiality, and mythology of its own—yet to be unveiled.
